I started working with Emily in late 2021 and it has been nothing short of life-changing. As someone who struggled for decades with obsessive exercising and dieting, I have found so much joy in working out again. Emily takes such a gentle and fun approach all while making progress in my strength and overall health. The constant check-ins with my body before and during each exercise is something that has been new to me, but it's so helpful and has made me much more aware of my body during workouts and in general. Emily truly has a gift for making one feel comfortable, capable, excited about movement and taking care of our bodies.

I've long thought that maybe I just don't enjoy movement, and maybe I never would. Until I started working with Emily. Through working with Emily, I learned how to connect to my body and what movements my body finds nourishing. Emily met me every session exactly where I was. You have helped me SO much over the 2ish months we’ve been working together…While I wouldn’t say that movement and I are besties yet, I have learned so much about the types of movement that I do like and how they can feel good. That some movements can actually give me energy - people always used to say that and I had never really felt it for myself before. I’ve been able to take the judgments about my current abilities and put them in box hopefully never to be opened again, but at the very least, they are contained and no longer running wild and dominating my thoughts about movement. I am a grandmother, and with Emily’s classes, I am so much more confident now in squatting to pick those little babies up off the floor. She gives many variations for each movement so I can work at the level appropriate to me. And let’s be real. I am also less worried about getting off a low toilet, which has been a concern since two years ago when I tore my meniscus in a fall. No surgery - just strengthening. Thank you, Emily!

Just the act of setting aside time and money to move in a way that has zero to do with burning calories and everything to with just checking in with my body is so powerful. It’s like saying to my body, yes, you are worthy. No, there doesn’t have to be an ulterior motive. It can truly just be about being present with whatever comes up. I’d like to get to know you better and even though I don’t always act like it, I realize we’re on the same team. This was my biggest takeaway.

In early 2020, I had started to think about losing weight for my wedding. I was going to bed every night hungry and angry that my partner wasn’t “suffering” or “sacrificing” like I was in order to “look good in our wedding photos.” This goal fell by the wayside as the pandemic went on and our wedding was postponed.
When I started looking to incorporate more movement into my routine at the beginning of 2021, I knew that I needed to do so intentionally and with the right support so as not to fall into the same behaviors. I started working with Emily in January, and she has made a huge impact on both my physical strength and my view of movement and body awareness.
I have been working with Emily via Zoom, and I am constantly impressed by her ability to coach effectively from across the country and to create a challenging workout for me with the limited equipment I have at home. I am comfortable telling her when I need to take a break or when a move isn’t as challenging as I want it to be because I know that she will listen and offer an adjustment.
I trust Emily, both for her technical knowledge and because I know she prioritizes my health and safety while training.

Emily invited me to play, to notice conditioning about what my body “should” look like, and to identify safe activities. Coaching was a space to explore the way deeply-rooted fatphobia lived in my body.
Through this, I was able to develop a new relationship with my compulsive, intrusive thoughts. I was able to learn how to talk to myself with compassion and loving kindness rather than cruelty.
